  • The Role and Opportunity

    The Directs Procurement Strategy Head - Categories (Raw Materials, Packaging, Devices & Supply Chain) is responsible for defining the global strategy for all Industrial Affairs Procurement - Categories (Raw Materials, Packaging, Devices & Supply Chain) and deployment of the strategy across the company including business units and/ or regions, as well as driving critical savings, procurement development and improvement projects.

    This role is critical in the transformation and development of Sanofi’s global Industrial Affairs spend impacting every Sanofi product by co-creating strategy and execution plans incl. supporting strategic (make or buy) decisions, creating the sourcing strategy, framing out the market strategy, leading key projects and driving critical savings initiatives. This is done jointly with Industrial Affairs teams, along with our R&D and Commercial teams to ensure we make patient-centric decisions driving sustainable commercial and margin growth with end-to-end visibility.

    Critical responsibilities and expectations of the role

  • Refine, evolve and deploy the respective strategy for Industrial Affairs Procurement Directs and therewith support to deliver against the cost savings, sustainability, and continuous improvement agenda.

  • Conduct data analysis, anticipate market trends and apply them to GBU, category and sourcing strategies.

  • Anticipate business and technology trends and apply them to GBU, category and sourcing strategies.

  • Lead the execution of key programs.

  • Contribute to supplier relationship management programs to drive innovation, supplier performance and deliver significant value for Sanofi through standardization, simplification and reducing waste.

  • Define and implement standard processes, policies, and templates to execute the strategy and measure performance and compliance.

  • Support M&A integration activities and participate in critical business and growth initiatives as needed.

  • Work collaboratively and cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Finance, Business Unit Leaders & R&D and build relationships within the organization to efficiently drive changes within the Sanofi business.

  • Connect Business Development, R&D and Manufacturing to ensure that there is established governance at key decision points to ensure they are making sound commercial decisions that consider end-to-end impact, ROI, NPV, etc. to drive margin growth.

  • Develop and disseminate communication materials to ensure key business stakeholders understand the Procurement strategy and how it impacts their function / business.

  • Support capability building through skill development, coaching and training around strategic sourcing and strategy development and support the delivery of training on processes and policies.

  • Execute projects related to reporting, analytics, spend system implementation, compliance, quality, knowledge management etc. aligned to the overall strategic plan.

  • Support Procurement excellence team towards the procurement digital roadmap.

  • Reinforce procurement interaction with IA Key Supplier Operations Leads.

  • Contribute actively to Budget and Long-Range-Plan cycles providing the strategic alignment and link to operational projects and targets.

  • A critical factor to be successful in this role will be the ability to gain commitment from and align with key stakeholders. These include business leaders and functional leaders (in Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management, R&D, Finance, etc.) at headquarters as well as the different business units and regional organizations.

    Candidate Profile

    Sanofi is looking for a talented individual who combines strategic leadership and a transformative mindset with hands-on execution and delivery capabilities.     The individual should exhibit high levels of intelligence, as strategic and analytical thinking, be a penchant for innovation and Procurement Thought Leadership.

    The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge and experiences in the following areas:

  • 5 to 10 years of professional experience with Procurement and Commercial Strategy background.

  • Consulting experience desired.

  • Raw Materials, Packaging, Devices & Supply Chain experience desired.

  • Experience in setting pricing/market strategy desired.

  • Preferable but not required exposure to the pharma, life-science and/ or vaccines sector.

  • Good business and financial acumen and strong interpersonal, influencing and relationship building skills.

  • Combines functional knowledge with dynamic, cross-functional interaction and highly effective communication skills.

  • Skillfully navigates in global and complex matrix environments; strong ability to morph and cater his/her style and approach depending on the function, BU and individual stakeholder he/she is partnering with.

  • The background ideally includes experience in defining and implementing Procurement strategies and procurement best-practices (processes, policies, systems, tools etc.).

  • Knowledge and experience of category management/strategic sourcing processes, tools and techniques.

  • Education

    Bachelor’s degree in Business, Sciences or Engineering or another relevant field. MBA preferable
